As much as it is nice to be fully immersed with the locals and to learn the culture and language, one might still want to be around like-minded people who can share their experience.
There is a large International community, mostly American, around the lycée in Saint-Germain en Laye (a suburb that would compare to Ealing in London). But you might want to enjoy Parisian life and be closer to work.
The western arrondissements of Paris are probably your best options. International Schools tend to be located in the 15th, 16th and 17th arrondissements. Apartments there – I know, sorry, houses are not an easy find in Paris (although we can always use a challenge!) – tend to be large and lateral. Construction is of good quality, you get good ceiling height, fireplaces, period wood floors… the Parisian dream!
Of course, being accepted by an International School is not easy as there is an extremely high demand for the good ones. Be aware of the necessity of finding an apartment in the catchment a good State school, just in case…
